The
Roman Catholic Church
Let's
explore two cardinal teachings of The Catholic Church and prayerfully
see if they are Biblically correct.
1. "Mary is the mother
of God"
- This statement is universally accepted by Catholics.
However, what do the Scriptures teach? The Word of God plainly
says that she was a human being who was handpicked by Jesus to
be the human vessel through which he would enter into the world
as the God-man (100% God, 100% Man) to pay the price on the cross
for our sins when He was approx. 33 1/2 yrs. old. If she was the
mother of God, then she would be God for the scripture records
that God says in
Isaiah 43:10, "Ye
are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen:
that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there
was no God formed, neither shall there be after me."
A.
Jesus kept her position
and subserviance in perspective as He said in Luke 2:4,
"Jesus saith unto her, Woman,
what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come."
He said this when she asked him to perform a miracle at the wedding
feast in Cana.
B. Mary
herself needed the Savior, Jesus Christ to save her from her
sins for she stated in her prayer in Luke 1:46-47, And Mary said, My soul
doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
C. After
the Lord's Ascension, she also waited just like the other apostles
in the upper room to pray and fast and receive the Holy Spirit.
In the book of Acts
we read:
>1:4 And,
being assembled together with them, commanded them that they
should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of
the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
>1:5 For John truly baptized with water;
but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
>1:13
And when they were
come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter,
and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew,
and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and
Judas the brother of James.
>1:14 These all continued with one accord
in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother
of Jesus, and with his brethren.
2. Veneration of Mary and
the Saints - Making images of and adoring and praying
and bowing down to saints is nothing short of idolatry which is
very strongly detested by God and condemned by Him. The Pope and
many of his followers are seen bowing down to statues of Mary.
Many people have idols of saints in their home with a whole host
of Catholic paraphernelia such as rosaries, candles, sacred heart
pictures etc. God hates these things of useless and deceptive
tradition. They will bring curses because in actuality, the people
are putting their trust in other things, (false things) in addition
to Christ. Neither Mary nor any other saint who is alive or deceased
can save us or deliver us. Nothing but Christ should be the
Object of our faith. He, (Jesus Christ) alone saves people like you
and me from our sins when we believe in Him and what He did for
us on the Cross of Calvary when He poured out His precious Blood
to cleanse us and make us right before God.
A. Exodus 20:4-5 Thou shalt not make unto
thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in
heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in
the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to
them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God.
B. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God, and one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave
himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Now we can
see from the Word of God that the Catholic Church does indeed
practice idolatry and teaches the same to its members. This ought
to make anyone who fears God and is willing to believe in His
Word or the Bible, to leave this psuedo-christian faith and organization.
