Do You Know?
On Choosing Your Life-Partner

Pray well and do not just go with anyone's choice or even your own desires. Know that you are accountable to God, Who has revealed Himself to you over the years and that you must do His Will. This is a lifelong commitment and so you must know for yourself for sure that it is God's Will. Don't depend on prophecies and do not rush. It is better to wait on God and get a clear guidance regarding this matter. Following are specific biblical guidelines for which you are responsible to follow before Christ. Hope you take this very seriously because it goes to you with prayer and it is perhaps the second greatest decision you will make in this life (first being decision to follow Christ). First, how can you know that it is not God's will?

  1. If the person is not truly born again you have no business even considering that proposal.

" Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? " - 2 Corinthians 6:14,15

Don't even imagine bringing them to the Lord after getting married. Why? Because it is a spiritual union and if the person you marry is not in the
kingdom of God, which means they are outside of God's Will, Satan will use that very person to pull you down spiritually. Take heed! There are many passive Christians who do not take a firm, bold stand for the truth who are presently suffering for it. You must be strong and emphasize and keep on insisting to your parents and all concerned that the first criteria important to you before God's sight is whether the person is truly born again and not just a nominal Christian belonging to any church and after that and only after should the question of appearance, education, family background, personal interests etc., come into discussion. God has already planned the best for you but you must be in His Will to receive that by obeying His clear commands in the matter of marriage and of choosing an alliance. Better to find out what God is doing and follow His leading rather than go along with worldly suggestions and suffer greatly for it later by displeasing Christ.
  2. If the person is born again, now you need to find out whether that is the person God has planned to be your spouse.

" House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife
is from the LORD. "- Proverbs 19:14

" And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son. " - Genesis 24:48

"  ... let the same be the woman whom the LORD hath appointed out for my master's son. " - Genesis 24:44b

Why? Because God has, among born again people, a very specific choice for each and every believer. The person must fit your calling and suit you specifically. Also, remember that the Lord knows you better than you know yourself in terms of your emotional and spiritual make-up.  You need to pray with faith and purpose in order to discern God's Will so that you are not persuaded to make a choice based on others’ recommendations alone. Desire a godly spouse and you will avoid many unnecessary problems in your spiritual life.  No need to rush this all-important decision.  Please read again the above quotations from the Word of God and take courage that if you will wait on God’s Perfect Will to be done and for His Timing, you will be blessed beyond even your greatest expectations in the end.
